Quarterly Tip

Cats: Inside or Outside?

By keeping your cat inside, you can help her to live a long and healthy life. There are many dangers your cat is susceptible to in the outside world. These tragedies include:

  • Being hit by a car
  • Eating a deadly poison such as antifreeze or pesticide
  • Being attacked by a dog, cat or other animal
  • Contracting a disease from another animal
  • Running into an unfriendly human
  • Being stolen or lost an unable to find her way home

Cats can be completely happy inside if you provide them with toys, good care and most importantly, lots of love and attention. If you have a kitten, start it out right by never letting him or her outside. Older cats that are used to the "great outdoors" can make the transition to being indoor cats with time and attention. Spaying and neutering cats will also help you keep them indoors.

If you feel you must let your cat outside, there are wonderful outdoor cat enclosures made especially to keep your cats safe while enjoying the outdoors. Also, harness and leash training your cat can help you to bring your cat outdoors under your supervision. See the following links for tips on harness and leash training your cat:
